Gluten sensitivity has come up as a topic of conversation multiple times in the last few years. The trend of eating gluten-free meals has caught on and continues today, with a large number of individuals claiming to be gluten intolerant. However, US News discussed a study in which it was discovered that only about 1% of the US population is actually suffering from celiac disease, which is the most severe case of gluten intolerance. It was also pointed out in the article that 86% of people who believe they are gluten intolerant are actually not. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, as many as one in ever 141 Americans suffers from celiac disease.

The Gluten Free Society explains that “everyone with celiac disease is gluten sensitive, but not everyone with gluten sensitivity will develop celiac disease.” So, while you may not suffer from celiac disease, there is still a chance that your body may react negatively when you consume gluten. These type of symptoms could range from fatigue, headaches, bloating, weight gain, and even brain fog.

These symptoms, although not life-threatening, are still cause for concern, as they can make your everyday life more complicated and make it more difficult to perform routine or simple tasks. So, how do you know if you are gluten intolerant? While an elimination diet can assist with this question, you may also want to turn to a food intolerance test. These help pinpoint your food intolerances and give you a clear answer as to whether or not your body will react negatively to the foods you eat.
