Food Sensitivity

Do You Actually Have a Food Sensitivity?

Food Sensitivities can be tricky, and their symptoms often take a while to show up, from a few hours to a few days. Symptoms generally include bloating, fatigue, headaches, skin rashes, and many others. Not to be confused with food allergies, intolerances do not cause life-threatening symptoms.

Once you have determined that the foods you eat are not causing these severe allergy symptoms, you can then start looking at food intolerances. The first step is to know the symptoms. The ones mentioned above are among the most common, but there are others you may want to look into, such as stomach and digestive issues.

After learning about the symptoms, you can become aware of them and notice them once they show up.

A Cosmopolitan article expresses this next topic very well “just because your friends are intolerant to a certain substance, it doesn’t mean you are too, even if you suffer the exact same symptoms.” The symptoms you experience are not directly related to any specific foods. This means that if 5 people are intolerant to lemons, they can all experience different symptoms. So, just because someone experiences the same symptoms as you does not mean your intolerances are the same. This is something very critical, as you do not want to misdiagnose your intolerances.

If you notice that these symptoms are constantly happening, pay attention to what you eat. It’s recommended to keep a journal where you write down what you eat and also when any symptoms show up. If you begin to see patterns, make sure you take note of those, but remember that food intolerances can show up even days after you’ve consumed the food, so don’t make any direct assumptions immediately.

Lastly, once you’ve started to see a pattern, it’s best to take a food intolerance test. There are several in the market that go about it different ways. Do some research and find the option that works best for you. Don’t be afraid to invest in your health. Spending a little bit more for a more reputable test can grant you more accurate results and more peace of mind. So, listen to your body and start working towards a healthier lifestyle.
